Tips for Getting a Marriage License in North Carolina

Before going to the chapel (or in our case the farm), you’re going to want to get your marriage license squared away. This blog will specifically cover getting your marriage license in North Carolina, so please look elsewhere if you hail from a different state to ensure you have the right information.

First things first, you and your beloved will need to fill out an online Marriage License Application.

  • A quick tip, you will need to provide which state(s) your parents were born in, so be sure to find that out beforehand if you don’t already know.

Next, you both will need to appear at your local Register of Deeds office within 15 days of submitting your online application. During the early days of the Covid pandemic, you needed an appointment. However, currently you do not need to make an appointment, just arrive between 8am-3:30 pm with a valid photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport) and you are golden. The cost of a marriage license is $60 and cash, check, and Mastercard/Visa are accepted.

Apply for your marriage license no sooner than 60 days before your wedding date. If your wedding date is more than 60 days out your license will expire and you would need to reapply.

Carolina Country Weddings is located in Cabarrus County, NC however, you can obtain your marriage license in any North Carolina County Register of Deeds office.

If you are residents of another state but are getting married in NC, you will need to acquire a North Carolina marriage license.

We recommend having as much fun with these mundane details as possible. Maybe make a date night out of it. Order in some food, fill out that form, and celebrate with some champagne or a glass of wine!

Well, that’s all for now, Happy Planning!
