Best Month to get Married in NC

The trend of outdoor weddings is here to stay and if you claim North Carolina as your home, you’ll find you have a plethora of months to choose from that tend to have milder weather. But when is the best time to get married in NC?

The weather does indeed have a mind of its own, however, there are some tried and true NC seasons that brides have come to love. Hands down, Spring and Fall give the most beautiful backdrops without feeling either end of temperature extremes. Spring will often be warm enough to wear a summer dress, without having to worry about your guests melting like a popsicle in the summer heat. With that being said, May is our choice for the BEST month for a Spring wedding in NC, because the threat of frost has usually passed by this time and the afternoons have begun to warm up nicely. Not to mention, the WILDFLOWERS. Spring is in full bloom by the time May rolls around and what Spring bride doesn’t want natural flora accenting her wedding day?

For brides who would like to have deep, rich Fall colors in their background, October is the month for you! The final week of October is typically when leaves are at their most colorful. October also has its warmer afternoons to enjoy, before the onset of winter has set in - which your guests will thank you for!

Once you’ve decided on the time of year, you can begin to decide on the time of day. If you and your love are wanting to catch that beautiful golden hour light for couple portraits then that will help determine what time to have your ceremony. Typically a Spring ceremony will range from 5-6 pm and a Fall ceremony from 4-5 pm. This leaves enough time to get out and take those amazing sunset pictures afterward!

We love to take our couples out off-roading in our golf-cart for a romantic field picture session to catch the gorgeous cotton candy sky after their ceremony. This is a great time to capture those portraits that you’ll want to display in your house for years to come (I can picture the mantle now! ).

Bonus Tips for Brides*

Decide on your Wedding Vibe! This may assist in solidifying the time of year that would fit your ideal wedding aesthetic. If you have a vision of pastels, wild flowers and lush green accents - Spring is a no brainer. However, if terra cotta makes you sing, then the natural backdrop of Autumn would be a wonderful canvas to work with.

Book early! If you’re interested in a May or October date in NC, know that these dates are most popular and will book first (A year and a half to two years out is not too early!) Once you’ve decided what month, book your venue so that you can get that desired date in the books! Your vendors will also be busier during these peak wedding seasons, so we recommend doing your best to lock in your vendors in the early weeks of planning your wedding.
